Chandlers Field

Primary School

Year 6 Residential

Yr 6 are having a great time at Hilson Park. We have had the following updates:

 Day 1 and night

The children had a fantastic first day. We all had a delicious lunch as soon as we arrived and then we had time to explore the wonderful site of Hilston Park. We viewed some of the activities we would be undertaking  and learnt all about the different knots we would need and how to be safe during our time here. Children then had time to settle into their rooms before room inspections and some outdoor games. After dinner and an amazing chocolate cake for pudding, we dressed up warm and headed outside to the fire pit for a campfire disco. The children and adults had a great time singing and dancing. Then in for showers, lights out and eventually sleep.

Day 2 will start with a 7 am wakeup call before a day of amazing activities.

We have now all dried off after a very wet but fun-filled day. After breakfast, we split into groups a took part in a variety of activities, including Jacob's ladder, crater stacking and archery. It was amazing to see so many children overcoming their fears and supporting each other. This afternoon we continued our rotation of activities as well as undertaking the zipline, which carries each rider over the top of a lake!  We have been so impressed by the resilience and determination of our Year 6s.

Tonight we are having a treat of a movie night.

Day 3 and night

Wow, what an amazing day. The weather has been perfect and the children have been unbelievable. We all headed down to the lakeside activities and tried the gladiator course, the balance beam and the leap of faith. Children and staff all attempted each activity and showed such bravery and perseverance. We have been so proud of all the children.

After lunch, the whole group visited the high ropes area and were set the challenge of the telegraph leap of faith. With quite a few nervous about the upcoming challenge, Mrs Starkey was volunteered to show everyone how to complete this activity. Again the children left us speechless with their determination and will power as time again again so many of them conquered theirs fears.

After another delicious dinner and our final room inspections, we were put into groups and completed the Hilston Park Scavenger hunt. With some great teamwork and using their problem solving skills, all the groups completed the hunt successfully. We then celebrated our last evening with the awarding of stars of the week certificates to 2 children that had particularly stood out with their amazing attitudes when completing the challenges and their kindness and helpfulness to others. The children reflected on their time here and then celebrated with some songs and dancing.

The coach is due back approximately 4.30pm, we will keep you updated if there are any changes.

Day 4

We are now heading home on the coach. The children have been fantastic and have had such an amazing time. After pancakes and packing we completed our final activity for the week. The children then discovered who had won the room of the week award (Hilston Park had very high standards at room inspections!) Then after lunch we set off back home. The children are all tired but very happy to have taken part in such a fab week. See you all soon. ETA currently 4.30pm.
