We have achieved Green Flag status!

Looking forward to continuing our eco adventure in the new academic year.

At Chandlers Field we are committed to ensuring our children become responsible global citizens who know how to care for the environment. Each class from Years 1 to 6 have an Eco-Warrior to represent their class. The Eco-Warriors are spearheading our Eco-committee meetings which include staff, governors and Friends of Chandlers Field.

Together we have achieved an Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. The Eco-Warriors completed an audit of our eco-credentials in nine areas: School Grounds, Biodiversity, Global Citizenship, Healthy Living, Marine, Transport, Water, Energy, Litter and Waste.

We have made an Action Plan of three areas to improve:

Saving Energy, Litter and Water. 

All the information from our Eco-meetings are on display on our Eco-Schools display board.

We started work straight away!

Saving Energy

The whole school took part in ‘Switch Off Fortnight’.

Each class now has a child assigned as the Energy Monitor. It is their responsibility to ensure lights, smartboards and computers are turned off when they are not being used. The fortnight was a great success and we saved over 3,000 kwh!

 

The Eco-warriors reported back to the children the results of the Fortnight.

We all agreed it was a great success and will continue to save energy.

Litter

The children have been using litter pickers in school and in the local community to help keep our environment clean.

We have had a Litter Poster Competition across the whole school to encourage all the children to think about their own responsibility for caring for the environment.

There were so many wonderful entries. These are our three very worthy winners.

It has been a very busy and productive term! We are planning to start tackling our water waste in Spring Term.
